Welcome to my kitchen!

My daughter came by today and set up a new blog for me - hooray! I didn't want anything fancy, just user friendly. That's what I got. I'm happy.

If you aren't familiar with Darlene's Kitchen, let me introduce myself to you. I'm Darlene Womack and I bake. A lot. All the time, actually. My specialties are breads, rolls and cookies, but I make other stuff as well. I mostly bake in my home kitchen and sell my baked goods at local Farmers Markets and through a produce co-op.

I'm not sure just yet what all you are going to find while you are visiting here, so stop by often and see! Some of my goals are to post recipes, Market dates, TV appearance dates, share Kitchen stories (unplanned stuff happens around here a lot;) and other "news." I use that term loosely 'cause "stuff" is the word I usually use.

You know, I've come to have a great amount of respect for farmers in the past couple of years. It gets really hot just working at the market for 5-6 hours, but they work in the fields all day, every day. Back-breaking work. THEN, they bring it all to the market to sell. I bake in my air conditioned kitchen. Yes, it gets hot in there, too, but I have shade (a roof over my head and walls around me), air conditioning (that I blast on 68* when baking), a fridge to reach into and pull out ice cold water whenever I want to, etc. Get the picture. They work so hard to grow fresh produce just for you and me. I appreciate that. I really do.

So, that's about it for now, but I'll be back soon with more "news" to share. Until then, remember to eat something homemade every day! You'll be glad you did!
